Oy. This is...what should I say...ah! an Urban Myth.

In the first place, the water warms up as you drink it down, and in the other first place, undigested food ends up in the lower intestines and then in the toilet. Only what is absorbed by the small intestine gets into the blood stream. This whole email you got is nutty....

You should also not drink fluids with your meal (wait until after) because you tend to not chew your food as well, and you use your drink to push your food down. This in turn, makes it harder for you to digest because of the larger bits of food. This can also stir up indigestion because of the extra stomach acids being produced.

That is not true. It doesn't matter if the fat in your food 'sets up' in your stomach, your stomach is still going to digest it and the fats will still be found in your blood and your body. They will still be able to clog your arteries and affect your heart. Hot drinks will not change that in the least.

The best way to prevent heart attack or clogged arteries is not to eat fatty foods and to eliminate trans fats from your diet. Please don't believe everything you read in emails. That "fact" is little known because it's not accurate.

I have coronary artery disease and have been given all the facts about clogged arteries. I have been instructed to eat a low fat diet, not to smoke, avoid stress and exercise daily. I take 2 statins for my high cholesterol to keep the numbers down and keep my arteries from clogging again. I believe the cardiologist have the correct information but it wouldn't hurt anyone to drink tea as long as they do not quit the medication prescribed by their doctor. Garlic is a natural substance that has been prov en to help keep the arteries open.
