this is really tough when you live in a house with someone who cooks, because if dinner is made then of course you are going to eat it, but, you can control it! It sounds like you live with parents so excuse me if I’m wrong. The first thing to do is get rid of the foods that are problems for you. If you can’t yet handle seeing them in the pantry and NOT having a bite get rid of them. or if they aren’t yours then ask if you can put them somewhere else out of your sight for at least a little while. Talk to your parents or roommates about your desire to lose weight. I know it can be hard but once they realize how important it is to you they are more than willing to help you out (lets face it, the majority of all our roommates or family could probably stand a little healthier food too). When your mom/roomie decides they want to cook dinner, ask them if you could help them out. Even if they pick fried foods see if you can take some extra healthy measures like using less oil and draining off grease, picking up fat free ingredient choices (that can cut a lot of calories in the end). And ask if you could cook dinner once or twice a week, this way you have full reins on the project. Pick up a healthy cookbook and find something you like. These days they make a lot of favorite foods and savory foods made healthy cookbooks, which is nice because you’re sure to find something that everyone likes (ex: sloppy joes). Also check out http://www.hungry-girl.com/ It’s a great website with lots of healthy recipes. And if you really feel like you NEED some ice cream at lunch or dinner do what I do: I always tell myself that if I still desperately want ice cream by lunch tomorrow, or dinner tomorrow I will have it. Most cravings come and go from day to day, sometimes it just helps to remind ourselves that we can always eat tomorrow : ) Good Luck!
You don’t really have to say NO to junk food.
You just have to eat it in moderation and know when to eat it.
Which is why a lot of people from athletes and bodybuilders will have a cheat meal.
By having a cheat meal, it adds variety and relief to your diet, and that keeps you on track and keeps you from binging on junk food.
If you eat systematically all the time, it WILL get boring and you WILL get cravings. So maybe once a day or a few times a week treat yourself to something. But don’t go overboard.
It’s much much more difficult to eat healthy if unhealthy foods are available to you.
Rules of dieting
1: If it’s in the house, you’ll eat it eventually.
2: Don’t do atkins
3: Remove all potato chips, cookies, frozen foods, soft drinks, and any other fatty foods.
homemade pita-chips, trailmix or fruits can be used as substitute
4. Don’t buy the above.
5. Exercise and eat not #3, lose weight.
6. enjoy
Remember your food groups, don’t do any stupid magic fat burning phase and ignore certain groups. You need a varied diet.
let me start by saying this wont be easy. and i WILL give you the best way.
basically, its more simple than any of those special routines or methods, you just have to remember to find a vegetable that you really like, and replace dessert with that. mine is carrots. then, just remember what your goal is when you even consider junk food. it isnt anything close to easy, but its not as bad after 2 or 3 weeks. remember, only eat because youre hungry, not because youre bored or depressed. replace those feelings with exercise or a sport! continue doing these simple steps, and even throw in some exercise, especially cardio. i promise you results, or else call me a liar. good luck!
