The colon cleanses can actually cause more harm than good. They can rid the system of the ‘good’ bacteria in the digestive tract. The ‘kidney’ and ‘liver’ cleanses are really risky as well, just fyi. It’s better to increase one’s fiber intake (slowly though as to not get stomach gas/upset) with whole grain (should say ‘100% whole grains or whole grains’) bread and legumes and fruits and veggies. Steer clear of laxatives as they can be physically addictive and can damage the digestive tract too. If having chronic constipation, please talk with dr about it and perhaps get a referral to a gastroenterologist (GI) dr.

Taking a laxative, stool softener, or cathartic is okay if you have dysmotility disorders or other reason for constipation, but in general it doesn’t do anything for you if you are "regular." The concept of "detoxification" is flawed. Humans have co-existed symbiotically with bacteria living inside their colons perfectly well for millenia.
