I’m 5’4 155lbs. I’m overweight. I plan on flushing my system for the recommended 10days. Then starting fresh with a new diet. What is going to happen? like how much weight should i loose doing everything right and how bad are the side affects. I am currently lowering my calorie intake and next week i will be juice fasting. So i am ready for the master cleanse. And should i take probiotics after the master cleanse?

My question again was about master cleanse and there have been some great answers

I’ve done several cleanses over the past 10 years, and they’re great. I’m not overweight, but I have, umm…digestive issues. So, I find going on a cleanse at least once a year really helps me. I’m a college-educated 37-year-old software developer, so I may not be a doctor but I’m certainly no rube. I don’t cleanse to lose weight–but ultimately I usually end up losing 2-5 "permanent" pounds.

I get bored doing the m.c. for more than about a week–if you last 10 days you may lose 10-20 pounds (that’s a big range, I know). But, when you start eating again, you will put most of it back on. That being said…if you have a donut habit or macaroni & cheese habit you want to kick, going on the master cleanse could help you with that. I craved (and ate!) Pop Tarts or other empty sugar snacks every afternoon, and going on my last master cleanse (a couple months ago) totally cured me of that. Now I have fresh fruit or a cup of tea for a snack.

Personally I never had bad side effects, except perhaps being a little extra tired.

BTW, I couldn’t tolerate the cayenne at all, so I bought cayenne pills instead.

Oh…and sure, take probiotics or eat yogurt with active cultures frequently.

    Good luck!

This is something that you need to consult with a doctor about. If you cant afford to go to the doctor ask a pharmacist at any place they dispense medications. Or go to Google search and put in the search bar "Colon cleansing questions" that should bring up some websites that can answer this for you and or you can contact a question answer archive pertaining to what all you want to know.
    Good Luck and take care.

In my opinion, this stuff is a useless fad, Kyla. You might "flush" your digestive tract of everything you’ve eaten in the last few days, and lost some weight in a hurry. But guess what? It will take time for everything you eat afterwards to work its way through your system. That means you’ll gradually add that weight back, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

If you’re overweight, it’s because of excess fat – adipose tissue. Forcing everything out of your intestinal tract doesn’t do a thing to get rid of that fat. The way you get rid of it is to eat less and exercise more, to make your body use that fat for fuel. Stick with a good program of lean protein, fruits, vegetables, a bit of carbs, and lots of water every day. It takes awhile to lose weight, but in the long run, you’ll be better off.

I am down 50 lbs from where I was in May by following this basic plan. I know it works.

Colon cleansing is not a safe and effective way to lose weight. It can cause vomiting, nausea and abdominal cramps. It can cause a dangerous loss of water and electrolytes, which can lead to dehydration and even abnormal heart rhythms. It can upset the body’s own finely-tuned bacterial balance.
