I was wondering if anyone knew what an average weight loss per week is. I started eating healthy last week at around 1200 calories *because I wasn’t yet working out* and lost 4 pounds. Now, I’ve started eating around 1600 calories because I’m alternating with aerobics and pilates and I have already lost 2 more pounds. I want the weight that I lose to stay off *just had a baby and had a few extra pounds after getting married!* What do doctors recommend losing, and if I’m losing too much, should I add more calories or willthe weight loss taper off after a few weeks?

My question again was about weight loss and there have been some great answers

Nothing more then 7 lbs is normal. Any thing more and your damaging yourself. As long as your working out to burn those calories you are eating you will be ok. If you eat more calories then you do work out then you will gain weight. Simple right. Your body does have a set weight. that is where you body like to be at a certian weight it doesn’t matter how much you starve yourself or work out you body just seems like it is not loosing any weight. Don’t be discourage it this happens. Just keep exercising and eventually your body will have to give.

2 lbs per week has been found to be the healthiest and most successful at mantaining. A pound represents 3500 calories, so you need to reduce your intake by 1000 caloriesper day to lose that 2 pounds in a week. Very difficult to do.

I always heard 1 to 2 pounds is healthy weight loss.

Healthy weight loss in a week is 2 lbs.

The main reason people gain weight back is because they dont continue to eat well and exercise after they reach their ideal weight.

Your calorie intake is just right. It is recommend to lose 1-2 pounds a week. This is a healthy weightloss rate and you will more than likely be able to keep it off rather than losing too much too fast. Sounds like you are on the right track and keep at it!

Don’t starve yourself! 1,200 calories is nothing.. You need more. Stay around 1,600 calories. Depending on your height, activities etc.. The first few lbs. you lose are water anyway.. I’m amazed at the amount of people on yahoo answers who all of a sudden want to lose weight for various reasons..but try to do it suddenly or crash diet.. Weight loss should be gradual.. A complete life style change as far as diet is concerned.. Good luck. try getting in some cardio and light weight training.. and don’t eat after 6pm. if you can..
