A tremendous amount of money is spent on weight loss products and programs.  Some people think many diet companies are not that interested in you losing weight and keeping it off long term.  Yes, some individuals have seen fast results by using these various diet companies but unfortunately, the results are far too often short-lived.

Most of these programs are designed to help you lose weight fast, which is not healthy and will not be sustainable.  Does this mean that there are no foods that help you lose weight quickly while maintaining your health?

You can actually do something simple that will help you lose weight without sacrificing your health or a lot of money.  Learn the glycemic index of your foods and you will have the knowledge to eat for long term weight loss and weight management.  The glycemic index is a simple way for you to tell how quickly sugar enters into your bloodstream from the carbohydrates that you eat.  The scale goes from 0 to 100, with water at 0 and refined white sugar at 100.  You will very quickly elevate your blood sugar level if you eat foods high on the glycemic index scale.  This can have a devastating effect on your health and your weight.

That’s because when your sugar level is high, your pancreas is designed to release insulin into your blood to deal with it.  Once the sugary food gets into your system, the call goes out to the pancreas to start making lots of insulin.

In addition to making you feel sluggish, you are also adding fat to your body.  How is this the case?  Once the insulin has “processed” the sugar, any unused sugar gets packed on your body as fat.

If you eat foods that fall at or below 50 on the glycemic index, you can greatly improve the situation.  These could become your newest best friends.  As long as you are eating on the low end of the glycemic index your insulin levels will remain stable.

The result is that you will be less likely to get cravings and you will maintain a higher energy level throughout the day.  Not only is this an easy way to lose weight, it is good for your body too.
